Former Minister Amaechi Claims Peter Obi Won Rivers State in 2023 Presidential Election

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has stirred controversy by asserting that Labour Party (LP) candidate Peter Obi won the 2023 presidential election in Rivers State. Speaking during an X Space discussion .

Amaechi said, “I can agree with you to some extent that Obi won Rivers State,” but added, “I don’t know how the results were changed.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the February 2023 election, with APC securing 231,591 votes in Rivers State, LP polling 175,071 votes, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) trailing with 88,468 votes. Amaechi’s remarks add fuel to ongoing debates surrounding the election’s outcome.

In a separate X Space session titled Weekend Politics, Amaechi pledged his support for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, provided they emerge from a free and fair primary. “Whoever wins will have my full support. I will be deeply devoted to the campaign and will do everything in my ability to help ADC unseat this current clueless government,” he stated. Amaechi also criticized the coastal road project, calling it “a road for stealing,” and vowed that, if elected president, he would prioritize electoral reforms within his first six months.

Speculation is rife that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi are eyeing the ADC’s presidential ticket, intensifying interest in the party’s primaries.
