BREAKING: Minimum wage N150k proposal shakes Nigeria today Nov 1, 2026!
Labour unions NLC and TUC have submitted a new proposal demanding minimum wage be increased from N70,000 to N150,000 monthly.
Why they are asking:
1. Cost of living is too high. Bag of rice now N85k, beans N95k, 12.5kg cooking gas N15,500
2. Fuel price now N1,405 in Abuja and N1,369 in Lagos after NNPC ended N66 discount yesterday
3. Transport fare doubled - workers spend N2,000 daily just to go to work
4. House rent increased by 40% in Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt
What FG said:
The Minister of Labour and Employment confirmed the government received the N150k proposal from Labour. But he said FG has NOT approved it yet.
He said there will be a tripartite committee meeting with Federal Government, State Governors, Private Sector, and Labour Unions. The meeting is expected next week in Abuja. No decision until then.
What states are paying now:
- Lagos: N85,000
- Rivers: N85,000
- FCT Abuja: N88,000
- Edo: N75,000
Other states still paying N70k.
What Nigerians are saying:
Many workers on X and Facebook say even N150k is not enough if prices keep rising. Some say government should control food prices first.
For now, minimum wage remains N70,000 officially. Do not believe fake news that FG has approved N150k. We will update you immediately when approval comes.
