They bear powerful messages of respect, dignity and compassion however, sometimes they have also been applied with abuse justifications. It is possible to play a significant role in the fight against abuse and promoting safety by reinterpreting religious teachings and transforming cultural practices of faith leaders and other community leaders and influencers. When victims see or hear these voices, they will feel heard, seen and safe and genuine change will begin.

Domestic violence in most cases begins discretely by use of controlling, manipulating or emotional manipulation that makes it difficult to identify in initial stages. The first early signs are a gut feeling and the lack of good intuition. All forms of relationships not only romantic ones need open communications, clear boundaries and respect towards each-other. Being able to say, no without feeling bad about it and keeping good relations with friends, family, mentors will enable the people in question to develop a support system that can minimize the isolation that the abusers usually use. An educational component also seems to be important to provide, being able to teach the difference between love and control, care and coercion, and educating especially the younger generation can help them to be better prepared to prevent an abuse prior to its occurrence.
