I Thought My Lekki Boyfriend Was Broke Until I Saw His Range Rover — The Truth Was Shocking!
I never imagined that the man I loved would turn out to be a complete stranger.
When I started dating Daniel, I thought he was just another young man trying to survive in Lagos. He dressed simply, complained about expensive restaurants, and always had an excuse whenever I suggested we go somewhere fancy.
Sometimes, I even paid for our meals because I didn't want him to feel embarrassed. I believed I was supporting the man I loved.
My best friend, Teni, never trusted him.
“Are you sure this guy is really broke?” she once asked me.
I laughed. “Not everybody is rich, Teni. At least he treats me well.”
I wish I had listened to her.
One Saturday afternoon, I went shopping in Lekki with Teni. We were laughing about something when she suddenly grabbed my arm.
“Wait! Isn't that your boyfriend?”
I turned around and froze.
There stood Daniel, looking incredibly expensive in designer clothes beside a shiny black Range Rover. A man handed him the keys, and he entered the driver's seat like a billionaire.
My heart sank.
This was the same man who had asked me for fuel money just three days earlier!
I immediately called him.
“Where are you, baby?”
“I'm at home,” he replied without hesitation.
I stared at the car disappearing down the road. He had lied to me so effortlessly.
That evening, I confronted him. At first, he denied everything, but when I mentioned the Range Rover, his face changed.
“Baby, I can explain,” he whispered.
Before he could continue, his phone rang. The caller was saved as Mummy.
A message appeared after he declined the call:
Daniel, your father says it's time you told that girl the truth. Bring her home tomorrow.
I stared at him. “Daniel, who exactly are you?”
He held my hand, his eyes filled with fear.
“If you discover who my family really is, you might never forgive me.”
Suddenly, someone knocked loudly on my door.
Daniel jumped to his feet. “Whatever happens, don't open that door!”
My phone buzzed. An unknown number had sent me a photograph of Daniel standing beside an older woman.
The message beneath it read:
Ask your boyfriend who he's supposed to marry next Saturday.
I slowly turned toward him.
“Daniel… what does this mean?”
He stared at the photograph, then whispered five words that shattered my world.
“She's my fiancée's mother.”
