Lagos traffic is getting worse every day and many workers are now looking for a cheaper way to move.
Currently, the Blue Line fare from Mile 2 to Marina is around N1,000. This is after the recent reduction by LAMATA. But for many workers earning N70,000 to N100,000 per month, spending N2,000 daily on transport alone is still too much.
That is why many Lagosians are calling for the fare to be crashed to N500, especially during off-peak hours.
Why N500 Fare Makes Sense:
First, it will reduce traffic. If train is cheaper, many people will leave danfo and BRT and enter train.
Second, it will help workers save. A person travelling from Okokomaiko to Marina spends almost N40,000 monthly on transport. N500 fare will cut that cost by half.
Third, Blue Line is faster and more comfortable. It takes less than 40 minutes from Mile 2 to Marina, while road can take 2 hours.
What LAMATA Said:
LAMATA said the reduction to N1,000 was to make rail more affordable. They also said more trains are coming soon to increase frequency and make service more reliable.
There is no official announcement of N500 fare yet, but many people are hopeful that when more trains arrive, the fare will drop further.
