**THE SCARCITY OF WHITE COLLAR JOBS **
It is high time youths realized that the white collar jobs, which they desperately look for after graduating from school, are no longer there. Universities and other tertiary institutions turn out thousands of graduates every year, and will continue to do so without a corresponding increase in the number of job vacancies are available for the teeming graduates that are produced each year. Getting government - paid jobs, or the so - called white collar jobs, has become a matter of luck or, better still, survival of the fittest.
However, youths should not be discouraged by this sad development to give up academic pursuit. Abraham Lincoln once said that it was better to acquire education and wait for opportunities than to remain ignorant. They should continue to give educational pursuit all the attention it deserves.
After graduating from school, they should swallow their pride and go in for vocational training in order to acquire skills. Rhis, i believe, would be done with ease due to their already developed intellectual capabilities. With these skills, they will not only become entrepreneurs but also employers of labour rather than being job seekers. The most successful people in our society today are entrepreneurs - people who have used their skills and initiatives to create wealth for themselves.
On their part, educational institutions at all levels should incorporate vocational training into their curriculum in order to train the youths in necessary skills that will make them self reliant rather than job seekers after graduation. This initiative will go a long way in reducing the rate of crimes in our society.
We need to borrow a leaf from the experience of the corona virus pandemic during which the economies of most countries were shut down and many people lost their jobs and means of livelihood. Disaster of this nature is inevitable and beyond human control. So, when it occurs, we have no option than to take it in good fate and start life all over again. Vocational skills will come in handy any time a disaster of this nature occurs and we are ready to start life all over again.
