The opposition coalition in Kenya is gathering its top politicians who have their sights set on the Presidential seat in the upcoming 2027 elections. This group includes notable figures such as former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua, Eugene Wamalwa, and Fred Matiang'i.
According to a recent report from the Star newspaper on Sunday, September 28th, 2025, it has been revealed that there is an unspoken feud between Gachagua and Matiang'i. This conflict is said to stem from Matiang'i's decision to join the Jubilee party, currently led by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
As the opposition camp continues to solidify its unity in preparation for the next general elections, their main goal is to ensure that President William Ruto is not re-elected for a second term.
Fred Matiangi has already shown his desire to be on the ballot in 2027 while on the other hand Rigathi Gachagua has also shown interest to contest for the top seat and dislodge his former boss from power.
What is your opinion on this matter? Do you believe the political tension between Gachagua and Matiang'i is a consequence of the former CS's move to join the Jubilee party? We invite you to share your thoughts in the comments section below.
