CHOOSE YOUR REFERENCE GROUP WISELY
Your reference groups are the people you associate with in your daily activities. They are a group you align yourself with. They are also people in a group that inordinately influence your thinking, your character and your behavior.
Reference group can be your peer group, your age group, a unit you joined in church or Mosque, a fellowship you belong to, a pressure group etc.
In a simple term, reference groups are people you feel you belong to. It is altruistic in nature or we may say they are a set of people you feel you have something in common with. You spend time with them, you do things with them, you seat with them, you associate with them openly. Your reference group are also people you are not ashamed to be seen with. You overtly identify with them
There is no two ways about it that your reference group goes a long way to determine your success in life. When you hang out with negative, bad, unhappy, depressed, toxic, gossiping, wrong thinking, backward thinking, backbiting reference groups, in no time, you will start thinking like them, talking like them, behaving like them and becoming like them. So it is in the other way round. When you identify and associate yourself with forward thinking, right thinking, good thinking, success thinking reference groups, soon, even if you are a chronic failure, their success would start rubbing off on you. You would start thinking and behaving like them.
Choose your reference group wisely, not out of sympathy or out of affinity. Emotional attachment shouldn't also be a basis for choosing your reference group. If your present reference group does not look like where you are going in life, please, I beg you, delete and disassociate yourself from them. Be unapologetic about it! It's better to stand alone than to associate yourself with the wrong reference group.
