Atty. Ranny Randolf B. Libayan: Aurora Game falls under the category of "Illegal Cyber Gambling."
In a recent blog, Atty. Libayan made clear that, while Presidential Decree (PD) No. 1602 took effect on June 11, 1978, prior to the advent of digital communications technology, gambling through the use of technology still falls under PD No. 1602, citing REPUBLIC ACT (RA) NO. 10175, thus Illegal Cyber Gambling.

Section 6 of RA NO. 10175, the Anti Cybercrime Law, provides:
"All crimes defined and penalized by the Revised Penal Code, as amended, and special laws, if committed by, through and with the use of [information and communications technologies] shall be covered by the relevant provisions of this Act: [Provided], That the penalty to be imposed shall be one (1) degree higher than that provided for by the Revised Penal Code, as amended, and special laws, as the case may be. (Emphasis supplied).
Atty. Libayan went on to say that we should condemn this illegal activity and hold social media influencers and/or bloggers accountable for promoting illegal cyber gambling. Thus, RA No. 10175 is cited, emphasising that when illegal gambling is conducted using information and communication technologies, a severe penalty awaits them.
