Frugal living is not about being stingy. It's about spending smart. Last year I saved $12,000 using these 7 simple habits and I still enjoyed life. Here is how.
1. I Did 30-Day Rule for Wants
Before I buy anything that is not food or rent, I wait 30 days. If after 30 days I still want it, I buy. 80% of time I forget it. This saved me $3,200 last year. Impulse buying was my enemy.
2. I Cooked at Home 6 Days a Week
We eat out only on Saturdays. Sunday to Friday we cook home. Home meal costs $4, restaurant costs $15. Family of 3, 5 days x 52 weeks = $2,860 saved per year. Plus healthier.
3. I Cut Subscriptions I Don't Use
I checked bank statement. I had Netflix, Hulu, gym, magazines, apps - $87 per month I never use. I cancelled all except 2. Saved $720 per year. Check your subscriptions today.
4. I Bought Used, Not New:
Clothes, furniture, kids toys - I buy from Facebook Marketplace and thrift store. Good quality, half price. Last year I bought couch $200 instead of $800 new. Saved $2,100.
5. I Fixed Things Instead of Replacing:
YouTube taught me to fix leaking tap, sew clothes, change car oil. Each fix saves $50-200. I saved $900 last year just fixing things myself.
6. I Used Library and Free Events:
Library has free books, movies, kids events. Park has free concerts. I stopped paying for entertainment. Saved $600.
7. I Negotiated Bills
I called internet company and said I want to cancel. They gave me $20 discount per month to stay. I did same for phone bill. Saved $480.
Total: $3,200 + $2,860 + $720 + $2,100 + $900 + $600 + $480 = $10,860 plus small savings = $12,000.
