Have you ever asked yourself why scientists are always talking about Mars and not other planets like Jupiter or Venus? The reason is simple - out of all 8 planets, Mars is the only one that humans can manage to live on.

Let us break it down.

First, look at other planets. Mercury is too hot, 430 degrees during the day. Venus is even worse, it is 475 degrees hot and the air there will crush you. Jupiter and Saturn are not even solid ground, they are just gas. If you try to stand on them, you will fall inside. Uranus and Neptune are too cold, minus 200 degrees.

Only Mars is somehow manageable.

Why Mars Is Special

1. It Has Land: Mars has solid ground like Earth. You can walk and build house. Unlike Jupiter that is just gas.

2. It Has Day and Night Like Earth: Mars day is 24 hours and 37 minutes. Almost same as Earth.

3. It Has Water: NASA found ice under Mars ground. If we melt it, we can drink and farm.

4. It Is Not Too Far: It takes 7 months to reach Mars. Other planets will take years.

Elon Musk Plan

Elon Musk, owner of SpaceX, says he wants to build a city on Mars with 1 million people.

He is building a giant rocket called Starship that can carry 100 people at once. He wants to launch 1000 Starships every 2 years when Earth and Mars are close. The first people will build houses, greenhouses, and factories to make oxygen.

Musk wants to do this before 2050 because Earth may become too dangerous one day. So Mars will be like a second home.

Can Humans Really Live There?

It will not be easy. Mars is very cold, minus 60 degrees at night. No oxygen to breathe outside. But scientists say we can build houses inside glass domes and make oxygen from Mars soil.

NASA is also planning to send first humans around 2035-2040.
