My name is Aisha, I am 28 years old. I got married to my husband Musa 3 years ago. We love each other very much.
But since we married, God has not given us a child. We have gone to hospital, they said we are both fine, that God will give us at the right time.
My mother-in-law never liked me from day one. She wanted her son to marry her sister's daughter.
Every time she visits us, she insults me. She calls me empty basket, barren woman.
Last week Saturday was the worst day of my life. We had a naming ceremony in our compound. All the women were carrying their babies and rejoicing.
My mother-in-law came and shouted at me in front of everybody. She said "You witch! You have eaten all your children in your womb. You are a cursed woman! My son will marry another wife!"
Everyone was looking at me. I was crying inside but I did not say anything. I just went inside my room and locked the door.
My husband came and told me not to worry, that God is in control.
That night, I could not sleep. I decided to do something to surprise everyone.
I took my savings of N400,000 that I was saving for 2 years from my small business.
On Monday, I went to an orphanage home here in Kaduna. I adopted a beautiful baby girl, 3 months old. Her name is now Favour.
When I brought the baby home, my husband was shocked but happy. He carried the baby and was crying.
When my mother-in-law heard that I brought a baby home, she rushed to our house. She thought it was my new baby.
She came and saw the baby and shouted "Whose child is this?"
I told her "This is my daughter, God gave her to me. Since you said I am a witch and I cannot give birth, I went and brought a child that needs a mother. Now I am a mother."
She was speechless. She started crying and begged me for forgiveness.
Now she calls me every day to ask about Favour. She even brings food for the baby.
Sometimes God gives you a child not from your womb but from your heart.
My advice to women waiting for a child, do not let anyone insult you. You are still a woman, with or without a child.
