Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) have also been in the news as part of the NLC demands. JOHESU, which includes nurses, pharmacists, laboratory scientists and other health workers, has been demanding implementation of a settlement agreement signed with Federal Government on February 5, 2026.
The agreement includes payment of CONHESS adjustment, hazard allowances, and salary arrears. JOHESU says many of its members have not received wage awards and other entitlements that doctors have received, creating discrimination in the health sector.
JOHESU threatened to join the NLC nationwide strike if government fails to implement the agreement by October 27. This could mean hospitals across Nigeria may be shut down next week, just as Ebola is spreading in Africa
The Federal Ministry of Health said it is working to resolve the issues and has appealed to JOHESU to be patient. The ministry said funds have been allocated but bureaucracy is delaying payment.
Many Nigerians are worried that a health workers strike at this time of Ebola scare could be dangerous for the country.
Do you think health workers should go on strike during Ebola outbreak?
