Materials Needed
1. Fabric – 2 to 3 yards (cotton, crepe, linen, or any drapey material) depending on size and style length.
2. Measuring tape – for accurate body measurements.
3. Tailor’s chalk – for marking fabric.
4. Scissors – for cutting fabric.
5. Sewing machine & matching thread – for stitching.
6. Elastic (optional) – for extra waist fit if desired.
7. Safety pin – for threading rope.
8. Rope cord or self-made fabric rope – length about 1.5 to 2 times your waist measurement.
Body Measurements Required
Take these measurements before cutting:
Bust
Waist
Hip
Shoulder to crotch (torso length)
Inside leg length (inseam)
Shoulder width
Armhole depth
Full length (shoulder to desired ankle/three-quarter length)
Cutting Method
1. Bodice (Top Part)
Fold the fabric into two (right sides facing each other).
Mark shoulder width, bust, waist, and armhole depth.
Add 1–2 inches allowance for sewing ease.
Mark the neckline (round or V-neck) and shoulder slope.
Cut front and back bodice pieces.
2. Trousers (Bottom Part)
Fold fabric into two.
Mark hip line and crotch depth (usually 1/4 hip measurement + 2 inches).
From the crotch, mark your inside leg length (inseam).
Add 2 inches allowance for hem and seam.
Cut two front and two back trouser pieces (back crotch slightly deeper).
3. Waist Rope Channel
On the waistline of the jumpsuit, add 1.5–2 inches extra for a casing.
This casing will hold the rope—cut it as a strip if you prefer sewing it on separately.
Sewing Steps
1. Join Bodice Pieces – Sew front and back at the shoulders, then attach the sides.
2. Join Trouser Pieces – Sew each leg piece (front and back) separately, then join at the crotch.
3. Attach Top and Bottom – Match the waistline, pin, and sew together, leaving allowance for casing.
4. Make Rope Casing – Fold and stitch the waist allowance to create a tunnel; leave an opening.
5. Insert Rope – Use a safety pin to push the rope through the casing.
6. Finish Edges – Hem trouser ends and neckline; finish armholes or add sleeves if desired.
