Chapter 28 Are you jealous?
Callie thought about the relationship between Belinda and Shane. Right now, because of what Belinda had done to her, she couldn't even look at Shane without a scowl.
"I'll do whatever I want. It's none of your business!"
She had been too panicked earlier. When she found out she was pregnant, she wanted to get rid of it. But when someone threatened her child, she lost her mind.
She was terrified of losing it.
Terrified that someone might hurt them.
Belinda knew she was married to Shane.
She must have thought the baby was Shane's.
So she tried to harm her child?
In her anxiety, she had forgotten that Gabriel was right there, leading her to act out of line.
Facing Shane's fierce gaze, Gabriel quickly explained, "I didn't see anything."
He hurriedly pushed Callie out of the car, afraid that Shane might take his anger out on him, and drove off in a rush.
Callie's lips tightened into a thin line as she glared at Shane, her eyes filled with intense hostility.
Shane's brow furrowed deeply. He hadn't even confronted her yet, and she was already trying to turn the tables?
This woman—absolutely outrageous!
"Get in the car!" he commanded sternly.
Callie opened the car door and got in.
With a mocking tone, she said, "Birds of a feather flock together, huh?"
"What are you talking about?" Shane quickly grabbed her chin. "Callie, are you tired of living? Have you forgotten what I told you?"
His grip was strong.
Her jaw felt like it was about to dislocate!
"I remember, I just don't want to listen to you. Why should I do what a wife is supposed to do? Have you done what a husband is supposed to do?" she retorted sharply.
Thinking about what Belinda had done to her made her furious!
"You don't want me to have any contact with other men? Fine, then you stay away from Belinda. Can you do that?"
Shane's dark expression suddenly softened, and a hint of amusement flickered in his eyes. "What, are you jealous?"
Callie immediately denied it. "Why would I be jealous of you?"
The expression on Shane's face slowly cracked into a grin.
This woman really had guts!
She seemed to have a talent for pushing his buttons, one after another.
"I heard your mother is recovering at Renai Hospital, isn't she?" he said, stepping closer. His warm breath brushed against her face, carrying a wave of masculine aggression that made her cheeks flush. "Go ahead, keep making me angry."
Callie instinctively flinched, but the next second, she was furious. She spun around and grabbed his neck. Her mother was her Achilles' heel. She could endure all of Shane's oppression, but she couldn't tolerate him using her mother to threaten her.
"If you dare touch my mom, I'll take you down with me!"
Shane didn't move. This woman, who seemed as fragile as a kitten, had grown sharp claws.
Once her bottom line was crossed, she would fight back without hesitation.
His voice was low, with a hint of amusement, "I'll give you the chance now. Go ahead, strangle me."
Henry glanced back through the rear-view mirror, feeling an urge to give Callie a thumbs-up.
Impressive!
Daring to grab Shane by the neck!
Callie didn't really dare to do it. In moments of extreme anger, people often react impulsively, but calm down and they restrain themselves.
She slowly loosened her grip.
But her stance was clear, "I don't expect you to fulfill your responsibilities as a husband, and you shouldn't expect me to fulfill my duties as a wife. When you can meet your obligations, then you can expect me to meet mine." Her attitude was firm and unyielding!
Belinda had threatened her unborn child.
As a mother, this was the least she could do to react and fight back!
Shane agreed without hesitation, "Alright."
Callie was stunned, finding it unbelievable.
"Do you not like Belinda?" How could he agree so easily?
Just today, Belinda had been boasting to her about how Shane would tell her everything.
It was because of Belinda that she could return to work at the hospital, having pleaded with Shane on her behalf.
Even Gabriel couldn't convince Shane, which showed just how difficult he was to deal with.
Yet, Belinda had managed to do it.
Callie couldn't quite understand the relationship between Shane and Belinda.
Regarding Belinda, Shane was unwilling to say much, his expression turning cold, "Don't ask too many questions."
"Then can I ask you not to pry too much into my life either, like who I might be seeing?" Callie retorted.
Shane found that this woman could ignite his temper in an instant!
"Can't you just behave for once?!"
Callie lifted her head, determined and unyielding. "No, I can't."
"There is no love between us. It's just because of certain circumstances that I need to take care of her, that's all."
It was rare for Shane to explain himself to anyone.
Ever since he found out that Belinda had a boyfriend, all the fondness and the romantic memories of that night had vanished into thin air.
What remained was merely the gratitude for her saving him that night, nothing more!
It had nothing to do with feelings anymore!
Callie seemed to have uncovered a secret. So, Shane's kindness towards Belinda wasn't out of love or affection.
She thought of a good plan and started to smile.
Shane frowned. "What are you smiling about?"
"Nothing," Callie replied, her tone unusually gentle.
Shane was absolutely taken aback by her sudden change in demeanor!
He looked at her with a peculiar expression.
Had she taken the wrong medicine?
However, her enthusiasm lasted until the next morning.
She moved into the villa and cooked for the first time.
She even asked Mrs. Ford about Shane's preferences.
Her intentions were too obvious.
Shane sat at the dining table, glanced at the exquisite breakfast laid out, and directly cut to the chase, "Spill it, what do you want?"
Callie smiled ingratiatingly, "Why don't you try it first? See if my cooking suits your taste?"
She had even thoughtfully warmed up some milk for him.
Shane took a bite of the fried egg she made, chewed a couple of times, and then commented seriously, "Not great, not as good as Mrs. Ford's."
Callie wanted to roll her eyes. Fried eggs all taste the same, don't they? Could he really tell the difference?
But she needed his help, so she kept a smile on her face. "I'll keep trying. Next time, I'll make sure you're satisfied."
Shane finished eating, then elegantly picked up a napkin to wipe his mouth. "If you don't tell me, I'm leaving."
"I want you to take me to the hospital," Callie immediately stated her request.
Shane glanced at her, seeing right through her intentions, but he didn't comment. This woman had quite the vengeful spirit.
He actually found himself... liking it?!
Callie stood up and bowed at a perfect ninety degrees. "Thank you."
Shane replied, "You're welcome."
Callie gathered her things and headed out the door.
Shane's car was already parked at the entrance, and she walked over to it.
Buying cars might be a universal hobby for men, and Shane was no exception. He usually rode in a business car, most often driving a Maybach.
However, the underground garage of his villa housed over a dozen limited-edition luxury cars.
Callie rarely saw him drive any of them.
Today, though, he was driving a limited-edition Bentley.
Bold and elegant!
It exuded an undeniable aura!
Callie, unfazed by the potential awkwardness of Shane seeing through her thoughts, smiled confidently.
Shane, relaxed in his posture, found the spacious interior allowed his 6'1" frame to comfortably stretch out and cross his legs.
A smile played at the corners of his lips. "Satisfied?"
Callie nodded enthusiastically. "Very satisfied."
Extremely satisfied.
The car fell into a comfortable silence.
Callie leaned against the window, her face turned towards the passing scenery outside.
She placed her hand over her stomach.
Last night, she had thought a lot.
Having the baby might not be the wisest choice, especially since she didn't even know what kind of man the father was.
But, the mistake was between her and that man.
What fault did the baby have?
Since what was originally a responsibility for two people now fell solely on her to decide, she would follow her heart.
Her baby, she would give birth to and raise on her own.
Lost in her thoughts, she didn't realize when the car had already arrived at the hospital entrance.
"What are you thinking about?" Shane turned to look at her.
