The Chairman of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), Prince Olabiyi Olaleye Poroye, has expressed excitement over the rapid progress recorded on the ongoing 28.5-kilometre Aboto–Atijere Road project, declaring that the determination of the Ondo State Government and the contractor handling the project is yielding visible results.
Poroye made the remarks during an inspection visit to the project site, where he commended the quality and pace of work already executed, noting that the project has continued to restore hope among residents and stakeholders in the riverine communities.
According to the OSOPADEC Chairman, the project is steadily advancing with about 15 kilometres already covered, describing the development as a major breakthrough on one of the most strategic road projects in the oil-producing areas of Ondo State.
“As regards the Aboto–Atijere Road, one thing is certain: when you walk with a determined mind, you can never be disappointed. The Governor is determined to complete this project and the contractor is equally determined,” Poroye stated.
“When we got here today, we were happy with what we met on ground. They have covered 15 kilometres already and with the speed they are going, we are sure they will do us proud. We have assured the contractor of our support at every point in time,” he added.
The road project, which spans 28.5 kilometres, is regarded as a critical infrastructural lifeline expected to improve transportation, strengthen connectivity and boost economic activities across several coastal communities within the OSOPADEC mandate areas.
Residents and road users have long endured transportation difficulties on the route, especially during the rainy season, making the ongoing reconstruction a source of relief and renewed optimism for many communities.
Speaking on the technical progress of the project, the Director of Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Engr. Dipo Aluko, disclosed that the construction work has attained approximately 50 per cent completion.
According to him, the stone base currently stretches across 10.7 kilometres, while major earthworks, drainage systems and art work components have reached about 14 kilometres.
“The work is tremendously progressing. The contractor has also been directed to commence asphalting on all stone-based areas, which presently covers about four kilometres,” Aluko explained.
He further revealed that the project had recently received an upward review, a development he described as a major boost towards ensuring speedy execution and quality delivery of the road project.
Aluko noted that the review would significantly enhance the pace of work and ensure that the expectations of the government and benefiting communities are met within the expected timeframe.
The rapid transformation taking place on the Aboto–Atijere Road has continued to generate excitement among residents, stakeholders and business operators who believe the road will open up economic opportunities, ease movement and improve socio-economic activities across the riverine axis of Ondo State.
