Gov't Workers on Notice: Say 'Kasongo' and Get Fired - Murkomen's Brutal Warning

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has issued a stern warning to all public servants, including security personnel, against using political slogans or disrespectful nicknames when referring to President William Ruto.

Speaking during a public address in Narok on Monday, Murkomen declared that any government employee caught chanting phrases like "Wantam" or referring to the president as "Kasongo" will be fired without delay. He stressed that such behavior violates the constitutional duty of public officers to remain impartial while in service.

Murkomen clarified that while public workers have the right to support any political candidate of their choice during elections, they must refrain from engaging in partisan activities while on duty.

"No chief, assistant chief, or police officer will be allowed to insult the government or participate in political campaigns. Doing so is illegal and unacceptable," he stated.

In the same briefing, Murkomen also addressed recent statements made by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, cautioning Kenyans against sharing his inflammatory remarks on social media

He accused Gachagua of spreading harmful allegations, including an unverified claim that President Ruto held undisclosed talks with Al-Shabaab militants in Mandera.

Murkomen dismissed the accusations as reckless and damaging to Kenya’s national security and diplomatic relations. He demanded that Gachagua provide evidence to support his claims upon returning to the country.

Gachagua, however, stood by his comments, stating that he was raising legitimate concerns about Kenya’s security cooperation with the United States.

His remarks followed discussions in the U.S. Senate regarding Kenya’s status as a Major Non-NATO Ally, a designation granted during President Ruto’s official visit to Washington in 2024.

The Interior Ministry has vowed to take strict action against any public officer or individual whose actions threaten national stability.
