Bola Ahmed Tinubu, popularly known as Bola Tinubu, is a Nigerian politician, businessman, and former governor of Lagos State. He was born on March 29, 1952, in Lagos, Nigeria.
Tinubu started his education at St. John's Primary School, Aroloya, Lagos, and went on to attend Children's Home School in Ibadan. He later attended St. John's Catholic Primary School, Aroloya, Lagos, and then went to the prestigious Government College, Ibadan, where he completed his secondary education in 1970.
After completing his secondary education, Tinubu moved to the United States, where he attended Richard J. Daley College in Chicago and later the Chicago State University. He graduated in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting.
After his graduation, Tinubu worked for the American companies Arthur Andersen, Deloitte, Haskins & Sells, and GTE Services Corporation, where he rose to the position of treasurer.
In 1992, Tinubu returned to Nigeria and ventured into politics. He became a member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and was later elected to the Senate in 1993, representing the Lagos West constituency.
In 1999, Tinubu was elected the governor of Lagos State under the platform of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) and was re-elected in 2003. As governor, he implemented various reforms in the state, including the introduction of a new tax system, the creation of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, and the construction of major road networks.
Tinubu is also a prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and played a significant role in the party's victory in the 2015 presidential election, which saw Muhammadu Buhari emerge as the president of Nigeria.
In addition to his political career, Tinubu is a successful businessman and owns various companies, including TVC Communications, Alpha Beta Consulting, and The Nation newspaper.
Tinubu is married to Oluremi Tinubu, who is also a senator representing Lagos Central Senatorial District. They have children together
