Chapter 27 Pregnant with twins
Over there, Henry didn't show any sign of recognizing Callie Norris in front of Belinda and relayed the message word for word.
Shane's expression showed signs of softening.
Belinda pleading on behalf of Callie was somewhat surprising to him.
"I'll take care of it," Shane agreed.
His swift agreement wasn't because of Belinda.
He didn't want Callie to be out in public, dressed provocatively, and doing hostess work because she doesn’t have a job, nor did he want her chatting about those kinds of things with men online!
Even now, the thought of her discussing such matters with another man was something he couldn't accept!
Henry said, "I understand," and hung up the phone, relaying Shane's exact words to Belinda.
However, Belinda wasn't particularly happy at that moment, as Shane hadn't agreed to meet her.
The next day.
Callie arrived at the dance studio, and Principal Lopez took her hand, thanking her profusely. "President Robinson agreed to invest! Thank you so much. Um, when he took you away, he didn't... do anything to you, did he?"
Callie shook her head and said, "No."
Just then, her phone rang from her pocket. It was Belinda calling.
She hesitated for a moment before answering, "Callie, I'm sorry about yesterday. I acted impulsively. Please don't be mad. I've already spoken to Shane on your behalf. You can start your internship at the Second Military District General Hospital. Consider it my apology. Be there at 9 am."
Callie frowned. This didn't quite match Belinda's usual behavior.
However, she didn't want to miss the opportunity. "Got it," she replied.
She went to Principal Lopez to resign. Principal Lopez was very understanding and even handed her some money. "This is your salary."
It was two stacks totaling about $2,000.
She hadn't worked long enough to earn that much, so she took only a few bills, what she felt she deserved, and left the rest.
Principal Lopez could tell she was a good person. "If you ever face any difficulties, feel free to come to me. I'll help however I can."
"Thank you," she said sincerely.
Callie left the dance studio and headed straight to the Hospital, arriving just in time for her 9 am appointment. Belinda took her to meet the chief.
The chief was a doctor in his fifties. He asked Callie to follow Belinda, since Belinda had been there a few more days.
Callie agreed.
Of course, Belinda had pulled some strings. She was still an intern and technically not qualified to mentor anyone. But she had used her relationship with Shane Robinson to her advantage.
Riding on someone else's coattails.
As Belinda took her to get her uniform, she casually asked, "So, when did you and Shane get married?"
Callie knew Belinda wasn't being kind-hearted. Sure enough, her true intentions showed quickly.
With a smile, Callie replied, "That's not something I can share."
Belinda's smile was forced as she said, "It's okay. Shane already explained to me that you two aren't together because you like each other."
Callie's expression remained calm.
But her mind was racing.
Shane and Belinda really did have a close relationship.
Seeing Callie's lack of reaction, Belinda knew she had made the right gamble.
They weren't a normal couple. If they were, wouldn't the wife get angry and question her husband if she knew he had another woman outside?
But Callie seemed indifferent.
After picking up her clothes, Callie felt nauseous. "I need to go to the restroom," she said, brushing past Belinda.
Something felt off.
Her period had been late for too long.
Despite thinking it was impossible, she went to the pharmacy and got a pregnancy test.
Two red lines.
She was completely stunned.
She had taken birth control pills, so how could she be pregnant?
Although she remembered that after Shane saw the second pill, she had put it in her bag and later forgotten about it.
Even with just one pill, the effectiveness should be over eighty percent, and she had only been with that man once.
Sitting on the toilet, her thoughts drifted.
What should she do?
She still couldn't believe she was pregnant, so she composed herself and went for an ultrasound.
She thought maybe there had been a mistake.
But the result showed she was nearly two months pregnant.
"Congratulations, you're having twins."
Callie was completely dumbfounded. She was really pregnant, and with twins?
"Doctor, are you sure there's no mistake?" Her voice was hoarse.
"No mistake, you are indeed pregnant with twins. How could there be a mistake? Look for yourself, you can see two gestational sacs." The doctor moved the mouse, showing her the screen.
Callie leaned in closer, confirming that there were indeed two gestational sacs.
Her heart was a whirlwind of emotions, a mix of joy and anxiety.
"However, you don't seem to be in the best condition. Being pregnant means you need to rest more," the doctor advised.
Callie nodded, "I understand."
She took the examination report and left the room.
Belinda, who was waiting outside the ultrasound room, went in next. Through the doctor, she learned that Callie was pregnant with twins.
Her teeth clenched in anger, she was furious enough to want to strangle Callie!
If Shane found out that Callie was carrying his children, would she still have a chance with him?
The odds didn't look good.
Feigning nonchalance, Belinda approached Callie with a smile. "You're new to the hospital, so you'll be on the night shift with me today."
Callie nodded in agreement.
In the afternoon, there was a surgery scheduled. The attending physician, who was their supervisor, would be performing the operation. Both Callie and Belinda had to prepare for the pre-surgery tasks and observe the procedure. No matter what hospitals they had worked at before, this was a necessary step to become an attending physician here.
Callie diligently focused on learning and carefully prepared for the surgery.
Belinda, however, couldn't concentrate at all, her eyes kept darting towards Callie's belly.
Callie, deeply engrossed in her work, momentarily forgot about the worries of her pregnancy.
After working tirelessly for half a day, Callie was exhausted, knowing she still had to cover the night shift.
She drank a glass of water, but her consciousness began to diminish. Eventually, she blacked out completely...
"Callie, Callie..."
In a haze, Callie heard someone calling her name. She slowly opened her eyes, feeling pain all over her body, and frowned deeply.
"Where am I?" The surroundings seemed strange.
"You're in my car," Gabriel replied.
Callie clutched her belly as she sat up, glancing around. "How did I end up in your car?"
She remembered being on duty.
"I found you lying in the underground parking lot. I had forgotten something at the hospital and came back to get it. That's when I saw you. What were you doing at the hospital?" Gabriel initially thought he was mistaken, but upon closer inspection, it was indeed her.
Callie responded, "I got a chance to intern at the hospital."
"Shane forgave you?" Gabriel blinked, full of surprise.
Callie thought of Belinda and quickly realized why she was in the parking lot.
She had drunk a glass of water that Belinda had handed her.
Both of them were doctors, well-versed in the use of medication.
That's why she hadn't noticed anything unusual in the water.
After Belinda had drugged her, what had she done to her?
Feeling a sharp pain in her abdomen, Callie hastily lifted her shirt to check her body.
There was a needle mark on her stomach.
Her eyes widened in shock.
Did Belinda know she was pregnant? Had she drugged her to perform a genetic testing?
"Callie, what are you doing?!"
Shane had rushed over the moment he received Gabriel's call.
And now, he saw this woman lifting her shirt in front of another man, exposing her pale, slender waist.
Did she have no shame at all?!
