A carnivorous plants that traps and feeds on its prey underground

Scientists investigating Indonesian province has discovered a rare species of plant that develops contraption underground for the singular purpose of trapping preys and eating them, such preys include beetles, worms, larvae e.t.c.

This plant is unique due to the contraption it develop in it's underground root system.

Nepenthes pudica as the plant is called posseses evolved leaves called pitchers or pitfall traps where the preys fall into and are consumed. Some species of this plant can even feed on rats as preys. Magnificent isn't it?

The pichers are reddish in colour and ranges up to 5 inch long with its roots diving into the soil directly or forming cavities for the aim of trapping preys underground. The leaves of this species of plants are chlorophyll free, hence cannot photosynthesis.

This is why the plant is called carnivorous.

I hope you find this interesting.
