If you’ve been on TikTok, Reddit, or YouTube lately, you’ve probably seen ads for apps that promise easy money while doing absolutely nothing. Just install the app, let it run in the background, and “watch the money roll in.” Sounds like magic, right?

These apps are often called passive income apps, and they market themselves as a way to make money while you sleep by sharing unused internet bandwidth or running anonymous tasks in the background.

I decided to test one of the most talked-about apps in this space: Honeygain.

My 7-Day Experiment: What Happened

I installed Honeygain on my Android phone and let it run for a full week — no interruptions, no phone restarts. I only used Wi-Fi, as mobile data earnings are much lower.

❌ What I Didn’t Like
