Almost Married to the Wrong Man: Chapter 13

Chapter 13 Blacklisted by the professional circle

"Dean, why are you asking me this?" Callie Norris felt a faint sense of foreboding.

"You should know that being blacklisted in the professional field means..." The dean hesitated, "It means your career as a doctor might be over. No hospital will dare to hire you."

Callie was stunned by this sudden turn of events.

Her hands clenched and unclenched repeatedly. "Dean, I love this job, and I can't afford to lose it."

"Even if I wanted to help, I can't." The dean felt regretful. He had always admired Callie's dedication and skill as a doctor.

But he didn't have the power to protect her.

"If you want to keep your job, you need to talk to Shane. You offended him, so apologize. It's better than losing your job," the dean advised kindly.

"I..."

She hesitated.

She knew very well that Shane's prejudice against her couldn't be resolved with just an apology.

Shane's treatment of her wasn't just because she almost damaged his precious item last night. He was also unhappy about her being his wife.

This was probably his way of retaliating for last night's incident and trying to force her to willingly agree to a divorce.

She took a deep breath. "I understand."

"Figure it out yourself," the director said.

Callie returned to her department, feeling utterly lost.

Asking Shane for help probably wouldn't work either. After all, his goal was likely to force her into a divorce.

She had already signed an agreement with Old Master Robinson.

If she agreed to Shane's demands now, she would be breaking her promise.

Suddenly, she felt a wave of nausea, but it passed quickly.

After composing herself, she opened her laptop and tried to apply for jobs at other hospitals. However, as soon as they saw her name, they immediately rejected her.

At this moment, she truly felt the power of the words "career blacklist."

But she couldn't afford to be jobless. She didn't have many friends, and the only person she could think of was Gabriel. After much hesitation, she took out her phone and dialed Gabriel's number.

The call connected quickly.

"Callie?" Gabriel's voice came through the line.

"Do you have some time? I'd like to meet with you," she said, trying hard to suppress the hoarseness in her voice and make it sound normal.

Gabriel agreed immediately, "Sure."

They arranged to meet at a restaurant.

Callie gathered her things and left the hospital.

She arrived first.

Gabriel walked in, assuming she was there to discuss the heart transplant. As soon as he sat down, he said, "I haven't found a heart yet."

Taking this chance, Callie informed him, "My mom's surgery has already been done."

"What?" Gabriel was utterly surprised.

"When did this happen? How come I didn't know?"

"Yesterday," Callie replied. "I haven't had the chance to tell you."

Gabriel blinked, then smiled with relief. "It's good that the surgery is done. Everything went well, right?"

She nodded.

Noticing the troubled look on her face, Gabriel asked, "Is something wrong?"

She had no choice but to speak up, "I'm going to lose my job."

Gabriel was shocked and then filled with righteous anger. "What? Dean Jenkins dares to fire you?"

"I offended someone."

Gabriel asked, "Who? Who did you offend? I'll make sure you get justice!"

Callie hesitated for a moment, thinking Gabriel might know Shane. Finally, she said a name, "Shane Robinson."

Gabriel almost spat out the water he was drinking. "So, because of him, you're about to lose your job?"

Callie nodded.

"Why did you offend him? Was it because of Belinda?" Gabriel couldn't think of any other reason.

Shane had gotten married without a wedding, and since he never acknowledged it, it wasn't publicized. Only the Robinson and Norris families and a few close individuals knew about it.

Even Gabriel didn't know.

Callie knew she would eventually divorce Shane, so she never mentioned it to Gabriel.

The only connection Gabriel could think of was Belinda.

Before Callie could respond, Gabriel continued talking to himself, "It's the first time I've seen Shane care so much about a woman. He must be blind to have fallen for Belinda."

Who Shane liked didn't matter to Callie.

After all, everyone has their own preferences.

Maybe, just maybe, Shane likes someone like Belinda.

But hearing his words, it was clear that he was quite familiar with Shane. Callie Norris cautiously asked, "The man you had me treat last time, was he Shane?"

She had her suspicions when she found out Henry was Shane's assistant.

Asking Gabriel was just a way to confirm her guess.

"Yes, but don't tell anyone," Gabriel trusted her.

Otherwise, he wouldn't have asked her to help last time.

Gabriel thought for a moment, "I'll put in a good word for you with Shane."

Callie hesitated, wanting to explain her relationship with Shane but unsure how to start. In the end, she just said, "Thank you."

"Oh, come on, we're friends," Gabriel laughed. "You said you'd treat me to dinner last time."

Callie smiled, "Alright, dinner's on me."

Skyreach Corporation.

After finishing the meeting, Shane walked into his office.

Henry approached him, "President Robinson, I saw Miss Norris having lunch with Gabriel."

"Who?" Shane turned his head, his pupils clearly showing surprise. "Callie knows Gabriel?"
